My Name is Daniel and I am from Wolfsberg in Kaernten, Austria. Currently, I am in the USA and I have just finished my PhD thesis at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
I am also involved in a couple of cool projects spanning from Art over Engineering and Networking to Education. So, my blogs will talk mostly about my projects and surely how you can get involved and apparently they will be in English,... just realizing now that I am writing in English!

Musicovery lets you hear music depending on your mood, or depending on what mood you want to be in while and after listening. Even without being a member, the collection of available music and possiblities are humongous. Of course, you can also go by genre (or even by year of release,...!) and while browsing through the songs you will get a feeling what mood the different titles deliver and you can then choose to keep that kind of mood or change it up or down a bit, or left or right, or whatever you like. ;_)

Angehende professionelle Redner und Unternehmen, die Vorträge buchen wollen, können sich bei der Speakers Convention einen Überblick über die Branche verschaffen und Kontakte knüpfen.
Kommende Woche treten in Salzburg einige der besten Redner der Welt auf. Die Internationale Convention der German Speakers Association (GSA) bietet am 5. und 6. September die Gelegenheit, sich für die eigene Ansprache vor den Mitarbeitern oder für einen Vortrag vor wissenschaftlichem Publikum inspirieren zu lassen.
Die GSA, eine Plattform für professionelle Vortragende im deutschsprachigen Raum, sieht sich als Drehscheibe für Speaker. Ihr Ziel ist neben der Professionalisierung von Speakern und dem Austausch untereinander auch die Bewusstmachung, dass es den Beruf des Speakers überhaupt gibt.
Das englische "Speaker" ist nicht einfach mit "Sprecher" zu übersetzen, wie Fleur Wöss, Präsidentin des im März gegründeten GSA Chapter Österreich, erklärt: "Ein Speaker ist einer, der fürs Reden Geld bekommt und neue Ideen ins Publikum wirft."
Branchen-Überblick.
Speaker sind auf bestimmte Themen wie etwa Motivation, Zeitmanagement oder richtige Führung spezialisiert und werden in erster Linie von Unternehmen gebucht, um vor den Mitarbeitern aufzutreten oder durch eine Abendveranstaltung zu führen.
Insofern ist die Convention eine gute Gelegenheit, sich einen Überblick über die Speaker-Branche zu verschaffen.
Die Themenpalette der Vorträge reicht von "Simplify a Speakers Life - einfacher und glücklicher leben" von Bestsellerautor Werner Tiki Küstenmacher über "Putting Humor to Work" von Michael Kerr bis hin zu "Körpersprache des Erfolgs in der Weiterbildung" vom Körpersprachen-Altmeister Samy Molcho.
Bei der Convention wird man Fleur Wöss zufolge erleben können, dass zu einem gelungenen Auftritt heute nicht mehr nur fachliche Kompetenz und ein mitreißender Vortragsstil gehören: "Man wird sehen, wie wichtig die Inszenierung mit Musik und Lichteffekten ist, oder aber auch die Art, wie jemand vorgestellt wird."
Wöss ist der Ansicht, dass die Redekultur bei uns unterentwickelt ist: "Es herrscht immer noch der Glaube, es komme nur auf das Was und nicht auf das Wie an." Außerdem bestehe ein auf die Nazi-Zeit zurückzuführendes Trauma, wonach man Leute mit Reden nicht begeistern dürfe. Nun sei es aber an der Zeit, umzudenken und das Trauma zu überwinden, denn "motivieren kann kein Buch und kein Fact Sheet, sondern nur ein Mensch."
Üben, üben, üben.
Wer selbst vorhat, sich als Speaker einen Namen zu machen, hat als Mitglied des Chapter Österreich die Möglichkeit, vor anderen Vortragenden aufzutreten und sich Verbesserungstipps zu holen. Wer ein guter Speaker werden will, muss eben "üben, üben, üben", so Fleur Wöss.
"Ein Vortrag muss sehr oft gehalten werden, bis er richtig kurz, knackig und professionell wird." Übrigens: Speaker ist einer jener wenigen Berufe, bei dem allzu große Jugendlichkeit eher von Nachteil ist. Der Altersschnitt der bisher 40 Mitglieder des Chapters (GSA insgesamt: etwa 300 Mitglieder) liegt bei 40 Jahren. Wöss: "Man wirkt nicht glaubwürdig genug, wenn man noch nicht viel Lebenserfahrung hat."

Kimeki initiiert Projekte zur Enkulturation von Kindern und Jugendlichen. Die Workshops verfolgen das Ziel, die Kindliche Fantasie zu inspirieren, das Zutrauen zu schaffen, Geschichten mündlich, schriftlich oder visuell zu artikulieren und nebenbei kritischen Umgang mit Medien zu erlernen. Das kreative Tun von Kindern - gemeinsam mit Jugendlichen - zeitigt außergewöhnliche Ergebnisse und weckt beiderseits enorme Potentiale.
Geschichtenvon Kindern in Worten, Schrift und Bildern bildeten den Ausgangspunkt dieses neuartigen, medienpädagogischen Projekts für Kinder im Alter von 5 – 10 Jahren.
Die Grundidee: Jedes Kind hat (s)eine Geschichte zu erzählen. Diese in verschiedensten Mediendisziplinen umzusetzen, ist ein Ziel. Die Wissensvermittlung erfolgt innerhalb einer Mediengeneration. Das bedeutet: Als Lehrende werden 12- bis 16-jährige Schüler aus fachspezifischen höheren Schulen herangezogen.

In collaboration with a new initiative from Austria in Europe, the MIT Edgerton Outreach program is working on a new project, Cineatrix. The original idea stemmed from the knowledge that there is a new generation of children who are digital natives, kids who haven't known a world without iPods and digital cameras, let alone a comfort level with computers.
An MIT student from Austria, Daniel Pressl, is now working on a new idea for the project, Cineatrix. This will combine film, theatre and comics. There are two main thoughts to our version of this program.
First and foremost, as a means of story-telling, children will be able to take movies, add special effects to the movies and be able to tell their stories in never imagined ways. The goal for the end of the course is every child will be able to bring a DVD home, to which they have contributed through filming, editing or storytelling.
The second aim is that children, between 10 and 15 years old, get to teach their technological know-how in media and videography to children between 5 and 10. This extraordinary, media-pedagogical concept has proven to show great possibilities and a new way of learning for children and has been running for the past 4 years, in Austria. We run parallel sessions in which the older children are trained on our particular hardware/software to do the filming, editing and other finishing stages, and have the older children then turn around and teach these same skills to the Storytellers, the younger children.

We received the $2,000 Director's Award and are proud that our hard work payed off again. We are now looking forward into the bright future of Insulation Materials.
Semi Finals
The team DeltaXwas cheered upon introducing their novel approach of combining new materials into a simple design to make insulation superior to any currently in use. The team received the maximum amount of funding of $1000 and is already planning to build the prototype to compete at the finals, spring 2007.
